Beats for each episode of a series

Writing a series, each episode needs its own shape: its own Anchor Beats, a pilot that resolves its story while leaving the season's threads open, and a way to see how the episodes add up across the season. The Structure would show every episode's beats, and the season's, side by side.

Make clear what StoryFlow does that a chatbot doesn’t

“At this stage I’m not sure yet what StoryFlow is enhancing vs. popping the script into ChatGPT and prompting it with questions.”

A simple tutorial for your first visit

“I was rather lost on how to use StoryFlow. I think a simple tutorial or more intuitive nav system would help me a great deal. It’s a bit of a tyranny of choice with all the options, and until I understand how to use them, I remain unsure where to look or how to get started.”

Say what each color in the Flow stands for

“I understood the thickness of the ribbons, but wasn’t sure what the different colors represented regarding my script.”

Guide me through my script, section by section

“If it’s called StoryFlow, I’d want it to not only help my script flow and work better in the final draft, but also help guide me section by section so I can flow through the process seamlessly.”

Show how a produced screenplay handled a moment like mine

In a conversation with the team, a writer asked whether the studio could point them to how a produced screenplay handled a moment they are struggling with. Building tension from an unseen threat, for example, they might be shown a scene, a passage or a line of dialogue from Alien.

Show how the Advisor’s modes work on your own script

“The ‘Auto’ area and the buttons beneath it appear like they could be the most helpful things for me. When I looked at Amadeus it started to make some sense, but I was confused on how to use that area for my own script.”

An Advisor that talks like a writing friend

“I wanted to see if the AI could respond to me in a more conversational tone, rather than so formal… like two writing friends having coffee, so once I prompted, it was able to do that.”

A lighter tone across the studio

“I love the language when the system is searching for a script, like for Amadeus (‘Craft services is… Continuity is… The producer is…’). If more of the site felt lighter in tone, and less formal, it would feel more intuitive for me.”

More color and scale to tell the studio’s areas apart

“Personally I’d like it to feel more robust, with colors and size differentiations showcasing various areas and functions. Right now, for me, it feels like function over form. I think having both would greatly enhance the experience.”

Sign in with a passkey or your phone number

Signing in today is by an emailed code or link. It would be easier to use the passkey already on your phone or laptop, or a text to your phone number. This is planned for the next StoryFlow app rather than the current studio.

Hand a project to another writer

Whoever brings a script in owns the project for good. It would help to offer ownership to a co-writer, who accepts it, with both told. And when an owner cannot be reached, the writer named as author could ask to take it over.

A watermark for every reader in a production

When a production sends the script out, each person gets their own copy, with their name across the pages and a code at the foot. Scanning the code always opens the latest circulated version, so nobody works from old pages, and you can see which version each person has.

A quiet StoryFlow mark on a free plan's PDF

On the free plan, you can choose to put a small "Made with StoryFlow" mark at the foot of the pages you send out, with a code a reader can scan to see your writer's page. It is off unless you turn it on, and it never covers your words.

Discover a character by talking it through

A guided way to find who a person is in your story, starting from what you intend rather than from what is on the page. The pages then show where that person is evident and where not yet.

A wall for your cards. Pin them where you like, tie related ones together with string, and drag a card onto a beat or scene in the Structure. On a phone you can see a preview today.

The Advisor knows the studio exports PDF and Word

Asked about a PDF, the Advisor could say one was not available yet. Now it knows where to find export: Share, then Export, for a PDF with its optional watermark or a Word file.

The team can answer you on your own ticket

Now, when the StoryFlow team writes back about something you asked for, you read it on your ticket under Mine. You hear of it in your next update email too.

A ticket on my phone scrolled the page behind

Swiping in a ticket on a phone could scroll the page underneath instead. Now the page holds still while a ticket is open, and the ticket opens at its full height in one smooth step.

Final Draft revision marks come in with the file

Now you can bring in a Final Draft file that carries revision marks, and the marks come with it. Track Revisions turns on in the file's own color, the Draft stays exactly as the file came, and the marks show on the page, in a PDF, on the project link and in the file you send back to Final Draft.

A deleted card left an endless loading box

A card thrown away could leave a box on the page that kept loading forever. Now deleting a card takes it off the pages at once, and if a card is gone, its place says so in one quiet line.

Your tickets say when they were asked and shipped

Now Mine shows each thing you asked for with the day you asked and the day it shipped. A report you sent from the studio shows you its details, and only you.

The feedback pages say when StoryFlow is updated

Now the feedback pages tell you when a newer StoryFlow is out, with the same Reload bar the studio has. Nothing reloads until you press it.

My Anchor Beat marks slipped when I edited

A mark could drift off its line, or go missing, after a cut, an Undo, a lift or a new Draft. Now your marks follow their lines wherever the pages change, and a mark that did not save is sent again until it does.

Feedback pages showed the wrong day

A comment written late on a Friday could read as Saturday. Now the feedback pages tell days and times in Pacific time.

Your vote follows a ticket that joins another

When something you asked for turns out to be the same as another ticket, the two are joined and your vote moves with it. Joining never takes away a vote you already gave.

A project you own can be deleted. The studio asks you to type the project's name first, so it never goes by accident.
